The Arduino Uno SMD is a version of the popular Arduino Uno development board that uses a Surface-Mount Device (SMD) package for its main microcontroller, the ATmega328P.
Key Difference and Features
Microcontroller: Instead of the standard DIP (Dual In-line Package) chip that can be manually removed and replaced, the Uno SMD uses a smaller, rectangular SMD version of the ATmega328P soldered directly to the board.
Functionality: It is 100% functionally identical to the classic Arduino Uno. It has the same number of digital and analog pins, the same clock speed (16 MHz), the same memory, and runs the same code.
Benefit: The SMD version typically has a lower manufacturing cost, which can sometimes translate to a lower retail price.
Limitation: The microcontroller chip is not easily replaceable by the user if it is accidentally damaged, unlike the DIP version which allows the chip to be simply popped out and replaced.
