Description
Ultraviolet (UV) LEDs are versatile components in electronics, but they require more care than standard visible LEDs because of their specific wavelengths and safety requirements.
A great beginner-friendly project using a UV LED is a “UV Ink” Message Reader. It is simple to build, demonstrates the principle of fluorescence, and results in a fun, interactive gadget.
How to Use It
Write a message on a piece of white paper using a standard yellow highlighter. In normal light, it may look like a faint yellow smudge or be nearly invisible if used lightly.Dim the room lights.
Hold your UV Reader over the paper and press the button.
Observation: The ink will absorb the invisible UV light and “re-emit” it as bright, glowing visible light. This is called fluorescence.
